This article shows the timeline of the Ukrainian encyclopedic practice, from the earliest books with the word \"encyclopedia\" or its derivatives in titles to modern online resources. The authors have been focused their attention on only a few encyclopedias, although the total number of encyclopedias is quite large. The most complete sources with index of Ukrainian encyclopedic books have been mentioned, while noted that their list is far from complete; this fact actualizes the need to assemble a new bibliography of encyclopedic literature. Issues of compliance of books with \"encyclopedia\" (or derived words) in the title to the standards of this type of publication have been raised. To solve these ones, a high-quality evaluation and normative base is needed.",
